Jack Russell Training Advice When Teaching The Come Command
There are several fundamental commands every jack russell terrier must learn during jack russell training. One of which is the come command. Just like sit, stay or down command, teaching your pet to come when called is one of the ways to make sure his safety regardless of whether he is at home or out under the sun. If your four-legged friend is reliably trained with the mentioned command, letting him off leash in the beach, park or grandma’s huge garden is no big deal at all because you know that you can always control and call him back should unexpected circumstances occur.
Although the command may appear so simple when executed, training them to obey may not be very easy taking into account their high energy level, curiosity and their behavioral instinct to hunt. A jack russell may prefer not to come to you when he finds a badger running around.
To begin your dog training session, hold a treat few feet away from your jack russell at the same time say his name. Give reward when your puppy comes to you. Do it again and move backward slowly to raise the space between the two of you. Lavish him with praise and reward each time he comes back to you whenever you call his name.
It might appear so simple but jack russell training to perfect the come command doesn’t stop there. It’s important that you associate the command with something positive like calling him to give him treat or to play. Putting him inside the crate or hitting his rear when he comes to you after you call him will only induce him to associate the command with something upsetting. Reinforce the command by calling him anytime during the day.
If your favorite dog|pet is simply too stubborn to comply with, avoid calling him repeatedly. Call his name only one time and when he comes back to you, reward with praise and treats. Whether he comes back as soon as you gave the command or a couple of hours after, just give him reward.
