Solutions for carsick dogs
If your dog gets sick when travelling in the car, one off the most important things you should know is that most dogs don't get carsick because of motion but of stress and anxiety or excitement.
Stress and anxiety
The first car ride, most dogs experience, is often a stressful one, the puppy is leaving his or her mother and brothers and sisters, with some complete strangers in a car. That is for most dogs a traumatizing experience that they can easily associate with riding in a car.
Most of the time the best solution is to (re) program your dog, teach him that travelling by car is a way to get to the fun times. The first time just secure the dog in the car, and just sit with him. Don't go anywhere. Don't start the motor. Just sit and listen to the radio. Soon the dog will realize that nothing terrible has happened and that it did not get sick. Reward your dog when it comes out of the car by playing with him. When you see that your dog is comfortable, the next time start the engine, but still do not go anywhere. When the dog is relaxed with the motor running, then begin taking very short trips, perhaps just around the block. Reward your dog every time with some fun time. Next you find a park or a beach nearby (5 - 10 minutes) where you and the dog can have some quality fun time. Then drive back and at home give the dog as much attention as you did in the park. The association with the car, becomes one with having a lot of fun. The next steps are to make longer trips and always reward the dog by playing with him when you arrive at your destination.
Do not rush the dog into anything, or it may just slow down the process even further. Make sure that the dog is comfortable with every next step you take.
Excitement
If your dog goes bonkers, barking, jumping around in the car and then gets carsick you have another problem with another solution. You need to teach your dog to calm down, restrain your dog in a dog car seat (small dogs) or with a safety belt in the back seat of the car (large dogs).
Some dogs associate the car with good times to the point of becoming overly excited. In this case, begin the same as with a frighted dog, just sit in the car, don't drive and wait till the dog calms down, praise him when you get out off the car, repeat this a couple of times. Later on take the dog for short rides that do not end up at the park or beach, but back home again.
The first thing you should do is determine why your dog is getting carsick !

Travel or motion sickness is caused by movement
in different directions, particularly when the animal is sitting
