Dog Safety Seat belt
The first dog seatbelt sold, were attached from the seat belt buckle to the dog collar, these are still on sale but we strongly recommend not to use these. The manufacturers will of course never admit this but there have been some accidents with this concept in the past. Because the seatbelt is attached to the collar, all force is on the neck of the dog when making an emergency stop or in case of a crash. You can imagine the consequences.
Nowadays it's better to use a dog harness attached to the seat belt buckle. The force of impact will be equally divided on the entire chest of the dog. Make sure that the straps are adjustable and constructed of heavy-duty nylon webbing with extra padding on the front. Also look if it has snap-lock buckles and can be quickly attached to the normal seat belt system. There is a wide variety of price and quality options, some of the harnesses are developed for walking on a leash and not especially for safety in the car. Those harnesses, don't provide the same safety. We have looked at some of the safety harnesses for medium and large dogs and found only one that stand out in quality. It is "Comfort Ride Travelin' Dog Car Harness " For small dogs we recommend other options like dog seats .
What ever you choose: Watch your dog safety in the car!
