A 100% hypoallergenic dog is a fairy tale
With the term hypoallergenic dog some people mean a dog that does not cause allergic reactions at all, well to be clear from the start that kind of dog does not exist. There are dogs who cause much less symptoms to a smaller amount of people who normally would have an allergic reaction to most other dogs. The key for those people is to find this hypoallergenic dog breeds that produce a lesser amount of allergens, shed less hair and less dander than most dogs. In this article we talk about hypoallergenic dogs while in fact we mean less hypoallergenic dog you should remember that a 100% hypoallergenic dog does not exist
There are some old dog breeds that are a good choice but the last few years we hear more about designer dogs, these are dogs that are “designed” to be a hypoallergenic dog but often are not. Mixing different breeds does not always have a good outcome. Goldendoodles and labradoodle sometimes produce more dander than they are designed to do. And even short hair and hairless dogs can cause allergies because most people do not have an allergy for the hair but for the skin or saliva.
As you can see it all depends on the kind and the degree of your allergy, when you are extremely allergic what some people are, you will probably not find a hypoallergenic dog that you can live with under one roof. The best test is to step in a car or other small closed room with the dog and stay there for at least 45 minutes. You should also touch the dog and get in touch with the dogs saliva. If you have not experienced any reaction after those 45 minutes you will probably have found the hypoallergenic dog of your dreams. But you can only be sure if you and the dog have lived in the same house for a week.
