The only thing we have to say about this is: Please Don't! Buy a puppy from a pet store!. If you are considering to do so, take 10 minutes and google 'pet store puppy' and you know why you should never do this.

Breed association / clubs

The best thing you can do is to contact the national kennel club, A kennel club (known as a kennel council or canine council in some countries) is an organization for canine affairs that concerns itself with the breeding, showing and promotion of more than one breed of dog. They have lists with national breed clubs, those breed clubs can lead you to a good breeder. It seems to be a bit time-consuming to search for a breeder, but there are a lot of puppy mills these days and you have to make sure that you pick out a responsible breeder.

You can also take these points to mind:

• If the breeders main interest seems to be in making a sale rather than the welfare of the puppy, you should probably look elsewhere.

• A good breeder has a strong knowledge of the health issues of his breed and will tell you what he is doing to prevent them.

• A good breeder knows about puppy testing and should be able to help you pick a puppy that will fit you and your lifestyle. Don't be surprised if he refuses to sell you a puppy he feels is wrong for you.

• A good breeder will try to make all the details of the purchase as clear as possible. And put it in writing.
