Antipulling dog training collars are availeble in a very large variety,
choosing the right one for your dog seems harder then you think.
Antipulling dog training collars are a great aid when it comes to
training your dog. However, it is very necessary to use the dog right
training collar and in an appropriate manner if you don’t wish to harm
your dog.
Generally there are five kinds of Antipulling dog training collars:
- prong collar
- Gentle Leader
- the Haiti
- the choke collar
- electronic collars (we will cover them in a separate article)
Each employing different mechanisms that aid in guiding your dog, restraining him and also discouraging him from bad as well as disobedient behavior.
Before buying antipulling dog training collar for your dog, it behooves you to first research them thoroughly so that prior to choosing one, you are sure of how to use it and in case of doubts, you may even need to consult with a dog training expert to get the choice right.
Prong Collar
The prong collar appears to be quite painful and it fact they are. It is made from metal prongs that are linked to one another and when the dog owner applies pressure on this dog training collar. The advertisement states that the dog feels a slight pinch that is very similar to how its mother would have bitten it when grabbing the pup by the scruff of his neck, well I would suggest that you try it ons your arm before using it on your dog. You will find out it doesn't feel like a slight pinch. We don't recommend this kind of antipulling dog training collars.
The Haiti and Gentle Leader
The Haiti and Gentle Leader are head halter devices that resemble harnesses which control horses. This method is designed to restrict the movement of the dog, and the philosophy behind such dog training collars is that they enable you to control the dog’s head, which will automatically translate into controlling the body of the dog as well. When the dog pules, his head is puled in your direction, and because he cant put his hole body in the pulling movement, your dog will learn that pulling doesn't lead anywhere.
The choke collar
The choke collar is another type of antipulling dog training collars and there is much controversy surrounding its use with some considering it to be humane while those opposed to it are of the opinion that they are little better than devices for torturing the dog. It works by tightening around the dog’s throat when pulled by a leash and then relaxes when released by the dog owner. It can be useful with dogs who are not very muscled around the neck, a Labrador will keep pulling because he will not feel the pressure around the neck right away. Be Aware!!! there is only one right way to put this kind of collar on your dog, if you do it wrong your constantly choking your dog, the collar needs to get lose when your dog is not pulling.
We would recommend a halti or gentle leader antipulling dog training collar, it is the most dog friendly kind of collar availeble.
